Northern Germany police stretch garments climbing Bavarian mountains

“Our products do what we say they do”, a guiding principle of Bob Gore, is still valid for the products we sell. Known as a critical person, I always try to make my own judgement for the products I sell, too. That´s why I take out and try our products or my private use in ski-touring, climbing, or cutting wood for the next winter. My application might be different from the real use of a policeman or technical rescue person- but it always gives me a very good impression. And, sometimes I simply fall in love with the comfort and versatility of a piece---like with my stretch garment.

Most police officers in Germany are wearing their ballistic protection every day. To be more versatile, the ballistic is typically no longer worn underneath the shirt as years ago but often included in a carrier vest (#Aussentragehülle, #ATH) that also allows to attach other equipment.

As a result, the torso area is typically warmer as its covered by the carrier while arms are hardly insulated. Under cool/windy conditions the normal shirt is too cold, a pullover does not integrate well and both options do not deliver protection in light rain.

To offer a comfortable solution, some federal states in northern Germany joined up to develop a functional garment that closes this gap. Gore partner #Schöffel professional wear won a significant contract for a WINDSTOPPER® Softshell jacket with insulated arms to be worn under the ATH (“Unterziehjacke für Aussentragehülle”). To allow movement without restriction caused by the close-fitting carrier vest, this jacket (also available as shirt with short zipper) uses #GORE #STRETCH technology in relevant areas.

Giving our material a hard try whenever possible I can confirm: this garment also works perfect for early bird mountain tours, when you a wearing a loaded backpack and you face a chilling wind from the summit in the narrow gully you have to climb to access the headwall.

(Disclaimer: I only wore this great jacket in loneliness to avoid appearing as an official which I´m not. Item is a pre-production test sample)
