KEY BENEFITS
Explore the high-level protective benefits of this technology application.
Resists penetration of many liquid chemicals. (For the full list, refer to the GORE® Chemical Splash Fabric — Technical Data and Application Guide.)
Garments are lightweight and comfortable enough to be worn for a full shift without excessive overheating, offering better productivity and safety for wearers.
Waterproofness, in addition to protection from liquid chemical splashes, offers weather protection as well as quick dry-out time when gear is wet down.
Reduced heat stress enables better wearer comfort, even over long, strenuous shifts. This level of breathability is not offered by traditional vinyl or rubber suits.
Garments consist of tough, durable shells, membranes, and liners which are washable and reusable, to provide long-lasting protection - a cost-effective solution.
When incorporating a flame resistant laminate, GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash Garments also provide protection from heat and flame.
*Only when a flame resistant laminate is added.
Thanks to the comfortable, waterproof, wearable protection offered by GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash Garments, wearers are able to work productively over long shifts that could involve incidental skin contact with liquid chemicals. GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash Garments offer comfort, protection and peace of mind when working with chemicals, at a level not available with traditional vinyl or rubber suits.
GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash Garments are comfortable because they allow the wearer to move freely and they also allow the body to “breathe”: sweat can evaporate through the GORE-TEX membrane, providing relief from heat stress. GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash Garments are the only garments available that offer waterproof liquid chemical splash protection as per NFPA 1992 while allowing sweat vapor to escape.
Due to these benefits, garments made with this technology can generally be worn for a full shift of work without excessive overheating. Vinyl or rubber suits, on the other hand, made from heavily coated materials, are hot, heavy and cumbersome, and can cause workers to be sweaty, sticky, exhausted and even disoriented after wearing their gear for a few hours.
The key to the uniqueness of GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash protection is the expanded PTFE-based GORE-TEX membrane, which is durably waterproof while providing liquid chemical penetration resistance and moisture vapor permeability at the same time. The 3-layer fabric laminate provides durability, tear and snag resistance, stain repellency, as well as washability and visibility. Each of these are highly important features for working in a chemical environment.
The unique technology in GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash Garments gives wearers the time necessary to exit the work area and get to an emergency shower in case of an accidental splash with a dangerous chemical.
There are two garment styles available: a one-piece coverall and the two-piece jacket and bib overall. Both are available in the textured polyester oxford and the aramid ripstop nonflammable fabric. Available styles, sizes, features, and options will vary with each manufacturer.
GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash Garments provide remarkable comfort and all-day protection in chemically-exposed workplaces.
Please be aware that the primary function of a splash suit is to prevent incidental skin contact with liquid chemicals. Because GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash protection is vapor permeable, it should not be used for protection against any hazardous vapor exposures, or exposures to carcinogens or other health-threatening materials.
GORE-TEX Chemical Splash garments PYRAD® garments are constructed with a durable 3-layer fabric laminate: an outer fabric, the waterproof GORE-TEX membrane and an inner fabric liner. A flame retardant option is available. The GORE-TEX membrane offers superior liquid chemical penetration resistance waterproofness and high breathability. GORE-TEX Liquid Chemical Splash Garments are sewn with Gore® TENARA® Sewing Thread, which is highly thermally stable and chemically inert, preventing seams from failing during chemical splash incidents. In addition, garments are seam-sealed with GORE® Seam Tape to provide uniform performance against liquid penetration.
NFPA 1992 Levels B and C - Liquid Splash Protection
RED - BASE OPTION
A specially selected red texturized polyester oxford outer fabric with a polyester tricot inner liner. Garments weigh approximately 2 lbs, depending on style and size.
BLUE - FLAME RETARDANT GORE-TEX LIQUID CHEMICAL SPLASH
For non-flammable performance, a blue aramid ripstop outer fabric with an aramid jersey knit inner liner. Garments weigh approximately 2 lbs, depending on style and size.
BLACK - HEAT TRANSFER FLUID PROTECTION
For heat transfer fluid protection, a heavier weight navy blue aramid laminate provides the same protection as the other fabrics, plus greater insulation and durability for high-temperature exposure. Gloves are also available for heat transfer fluid option garments. Further information on this specialized application is available upon request.
