GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® protective barriers are the most breathable in broader conditions, allowing them to help manage heat stress better. They remain thermal stability after exposure to extreme heat, enabling them to continue providing liquid penetration resistance to blood, body fluids, common chemicals, and water.
KEY BENEFITS
Explore the high-level protective benefits of this technology application.
Breathable
Blood-Borne and Viral Pathogen Protection
Chemical Resistant
Flame resistant
Durably waterproof
Rugged
The most breathable barriers in broader conditions.
Barriers are engineered for protection against pathogens found in blood and body fluids.
Prevents penetration of NFPA commonly encountered fireground chemicals. The membrane properties remain intact even after contamination.
As proven in our Pyroman and field tests, these barriers deliver thermal performance in the toughest conditions.
Emergencies can happen in any kind of weather - that's why GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® fabricrs are durably waterproof as well as resistant to liquid chemicals commonly found at the fireground.
Our protective barriers have gone through more than five times the number of wash cycles required by NFPA, and they showed no leaks, tears, or deterioration in protection.
Wearing the appropriate protective gear when fighting fires can be a life-critical decision. Garments with a GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® barrier provide protection against pathogens found in blood and body fluids, in addition to NFPA common chemicals such as battery acid and hydraulic fluid. Highly breathable gear allows sweat vapor to escape from inside the garment during physically demanding activities.
Garments with GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® moisture barriers consist of an outer shell, a moisture barrier and a thermal liner. The thermal performance and breathability are determined by the layers selected. When moisture moves better within the layers, dry out time between calls is decreased and thermal protection is maintained better.
The moisture barrier forms an essential part of the structural firefighting garments, providing durable liquid penetration protection, while being breathable to let sweat escape.
When exposed to high heat, unique GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® moisture barriers will not burn or melt.
- The composite consists of an outer shell, a moisture barrier, and a thermal liner.
- The durability, thermal performance and breathability are determined by the layers selected.
The use of a flame-retardant outer shell material provides flame resistance. The GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® membrane prevents penetration of viruses and bacteria found in blood and body fluids, while also allowing for the release of sweat. Barrier properties remain intact even after heat exposure.
Gore adheres to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® to demonstrate product safety. Gore is among the first in the textile industry to be recognized for eliminating perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) from all raw materials used in its fabric products.
Fire and Safety
This technology has been developed for the extremely demanding situations that fire fighters are confronted with to protect them from the hazards of the fireground. It is also ideal for firefighters at risk of exposure to heat and flame, blood and body fluids, water and common fireground or accident scene chemicals.
Certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, Class II.
NFPA 1971:
Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® BLACK MOISTURE BARRIER
Selected by most major metro departments as their barrier of choice, GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® black moisture barrier provides high breathability and outstanding durability that complies with the NFPA 1851 Standard.
Additional benefits: Helps firefighters manage heat stress better across a broad range of conditions, such as responding to an accident on hot asphalt highway or venting a rooftop in the heat of the sun.
Ideal for: Structural firefighters.
Standard Compliant: NFPA 1971 - Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting.
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® 3-LAYER MOISTURE BARRIER
Ideal for those who are really tough on their gear — the first to respond, always engaged, and the last to leave — GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® 3-layer moisture barrier is the toughest barrier in the industry, delivering rugged, long-lasting protection that exceeds the requirements of the NFPA 1971 standard.
Additional benefits: Outstanding abrasion- and wear-resistance with a unique construction that durably withstands high heat exposure.
Ideal for: Structural firefighters who are tough on their gear.
Standard compliant: NFPA 1971: Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting
GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® PARALLON® LINER SYSTEM
It's no longer necessary to choose between thermal protection and breathability. Now, GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® PARALLON® liner system makes it possible to achieve unparalleled levels of breathability, while also preventing serious drops in thermal protection that can occur as your gear gets wet, particularly from sweat.
Additional benefits: The technology has been proven through testing to reduce the risk of burn injuries. When tested in an ordinary fireground heat exposure (i.e. 0.2 cal/cm2sec) to 2nd degree burn level, wet conventional gear lost 34 percent of its thermal protection compared to when it was dry. However, the GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® PARALLON® liner system lost only 4 percent, remaining relatively unchanged after it became wet.
Ideal for: GORE-TEX CROSSTECH® PARALLON® product technology offers consistent thermal protection and the highest level of breathability for structural firefighters.
GORE® RT7100 Moisture Barrier
GORE® RT7100 moisture barrier offers the best combination of performance and value - the level of thermal protection and liquid-penetration resistance it provides is unmatched in its price range.
Additional Benefits: Engineered to offer high levels of thermal stability and liquid penetration resistance.
Ideal for: Structural firefighters.
Standard Compliant: NFPA 1971 Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting.
